Death Doula services & Grief Cafes

Compassionate presence and yoga-informed practices for every kind of loss.

What Is a Death Doula?

Maybe its better to think of a death doula as Grief support. Grief takes many shapes and death is one of them. But whether you’re facing a terminal diagnosis, the end of a relationship, loss of work or mobility, the death of a beloved pet, or the quiet grief of identity change, I offer steady, heart-centered support. Blending grief support with yoga therapy, I help you move through loss with grounding, breath, and meaning.

Gentle Offerings

All sessions are adaptable to home, hospice, hospital, outside or virtual settings.

1. Grief discussions

Providing a safe space to talk about your grief and the feeling of loss. For losses beyond death including:

Job or career changes

Loss of mobility or chronic illness

Pet loss and animal companions

Identity and sexuality changes (including LGBTQ2+ coming-out, estrangement, or gender transition grief).

Sessions may include storytelling, mindful movement, and breath practices to help integrate change.

2. End-of-Life & Bedside Care

Presence during final days, gentle breath work, guided meditation, family rituals, vigil support. I believe every breath—first or last—deserves reverence.

2. Life in Review & Legacy Work

Guided reflection using the Life in Review workbook; creation of keepsakes—letters, recordings, art.

3. Yoga Therapy for Grief & Anxiety

Chair or bed-adapted poses, restorative yoga, yoga nidra, and heart-centered meditation to calm the nervous system and invite rest.

What to Expect

Each session begins with a grounding practice—breath, gentle movement, or sound—followed by conversation or guided reflection. Together we co-create rituals, identify resources, and honour your unique story of loss.

Grief Cafe

Grief is often a topic shrouded in silence and taboo. It is not a problem to be solved, but a process to be honoured. A death or grief cafe is a unique space for individuals to engage in open and honest conversations about loss–loss of a loved one, loss of a job, loss of a pet, loss of a relationship, loss of mobility, loss of sexuality are just some instances of felt loss.

At a Grief Café, we traditionally gather around warm tea and sweets and engage in respectful and compassionate discussions. The focus is not on mourning or grief but rather on fostering a deeper understanding of loss and its impact on our lives. It is not grief support or counselling session but a safe space to talk openly about grief.

Kirsten & Michelle invite participants to share their stories, ask questions, and listen attentively to others. There is no pressure to speak, and silence is welcomed as a natural part of the process. Gentle mindfulness will also be facilitated.

The concept of Grief Cafés is rooted in the belief that talking about grief can help us live more fully and appreciate the preciousness of life. By creating a safe space for these conversations, Grief Cafés contribute to breaking down the taboo surrounding loss and encouraging a healthier and more open approach to our loss.

Whether you have experienced a personal loss, are curious about death’s mysteries, or simply seek to connect with others on a deeper level, we welcome you to this unique and trans-formative conversation circle.
