Yoga therapy FAQ

Yoga therapy is a holistic in that it combines the ancient principles of yoga with modern therapeutic techniques. Unlike traditional yoga classes that focus on general fitness or relaxation, yoga therapy tailors practices to meet the unique needs of individual people dealing with physical, mental, or emotional challenges. It’s a personalized approach to bringing balance to the body, mind, and spirit.

Yoga therapy can assist with a wide range of conditions including chronic pain, anxiety and depression, stress management, sleep or insomnia, PTSD and trauma, cardiovascular condition, respiratory conditions, hypertentions and fatigue and burnout.

I feel like I have won the lottery since coming to your yoga classes. The joy and knowledge you bring each week has been uplifting. Thank you so much!

No! No prior experience is necessary. Yoga therapy is designed to meet you where you are.

There will be an initial assessment. After filling in a short intake form, the first session will begin with a detailed consultation. I will look at your goals and concerns and we will chat about your well-being and then I design a personalized program that caters to your needs.

Yoga therapy sessions will include personalized practice (yoga postures), breathing exercises (pranayama), meditation, and other mindful techniques for relaxation. I choose practices specifically to support your healing process. The movements may be slow and gentle or more dynamic depending on your capabilities and therapeutic goals.

The first visit will be about 75-90 minutes. Subsequent sessions are about 60 minutes. Treat it like a private yoga class!

As a social enterprise, Westcoast Duck Yoga aims to provide yoga to anyone–“Yoga for all bodies” and finances should not be a barrier. As a certified yoga therapist, individual sessions are $60 but I do operate on a sliding scale with 4 sessions for $160. Please that if finances are a barrier, a sliding scale can be arranged so that no one is turned away.

The number of sessions vary from person to person. I ask for a minimum commitment of 2 sessions so that we can focus on long-term healing but the number and frequency of sessions will depend on your goals and how your body responds to therapy.

We can meet on Zoom or in person at the Evolutions Wellness Clinic, 4-7816 E. Saanich Road.

Wear comfortable, loose fitting clothing that allows you to move freely.

You do not need to bring anything for in person sessions in your home or in my studio. For online sessions, I send a list of anything needed in advance of our session (most items can be found in your home already). Sessions can be done on the floor with a yoga mat or in a chair.

Coverage depends on your location and insurance provider. Its best to check with your insurance provider.

While a doctor’s referral is not required to start yoga therapy, it may be recommended if you are dealing with a specific medical condition. You can check in with me about this during your intake form.
