Finding balance in the great outdoors.

I don’t know about you but when I am outside, I seek connection to the ground, the trees, the sun, the air… And of course, a place to practice yoga. For instance, my daughter and I were blueberry picking the other day at a local farm and I turned around and she was downdawging with the dog!

How fun is it to be mindful in nature. The benefit to practicing yoga in nature, even just one pose, is the connection to nature for grounding and deeper relaxation as well as fresh air and sunshine and the value of nature for stress relief.

The next time you find yourself outside, I encourage you to find one pose to practice such as Tadasana (standing) for just a few minutes. Plant your feet, lift the toes and lay them back down. Close your eyes and feel the earth supporting your feet. Notice the air. Feel the breeze or the sunshine or the air itself. Listen to the sounds–what can you hear? Finally, notice your breath. Can you feel the rise and fall of your intake and exhalation? Take a few breaths. Open your eyes. Wasn’t that a fantastic way to connect yourself to nature??? Try it and post your reflections below. With gratitude, Dr. M.
